Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant that can be used by the body to restore tissue and keep the immune system in good health. We use it in our Colds CX formulation to directly deliver antioxidant support to the nasal tissues, providing the body with the vitamins it needs to keep the sinuses healthy and ready to fight possible infections.

Biochemical Properties

Vitamin C is most well known for its ability to provide antioxidant support to the body. Antioxidants can help the body to combat symptoms of oxidative stress which can be caused by a number of processes such as:

  • Exposure to smoke, ozone, and other environmental pollutants
  • Inflammation or Injury
  • Exposure to pesticides and other chemicals
  • Excessive exercise

Cellular damage from oxidative stress can affect a wide range of bodily functions – from nerve and skin health to mental and muscle function.

What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are molecules that can help prevent damage to cells throughout the body. Without antioxidants, cells are left exposed to free radicals – unstable molecules that can be produced by the body as a result of the immune system responding to stimuli.

There are hundreds of substances that have antioxidant properties, each with a slightly different function. Many vitamins and phytonutrients can provide antioxidant support and this is one of the main reasons it is important to eat a healthy diet that contains a range of vegetables and vitamin-rich food.
